Blank Canvas investigates how digital billboards appear to be multiplying in our modern urban landscapes. By employing vivid luminous displays and dynamic moving images they are perfectly designed to capture our attention. They introduce a new level of interactivity and engagement to the world of digital advertising that seems difficult to escape.
Using long exposures, I reduce these moving images to a blank canvas. A process that mirrors what happens to our brains when our minds disconnect and become vacant by the constant bombardment of visual imagery.
The project raises questions about the impact of our ever-evolving technological landscape on us as humans and urges us to contemplate on the need for balance in a hyperconnected digital world that always seems to be switched on.
